OFFSITE Project:
Alex Robbins
Landscape with Stream and Weir
EYES ONLY, Munich, Germany.
From 4th August to 26th September 2026, Atlas House has been invited to occupy EYES ONLY, an alternative exhibition space in a former retail window in Munich, Germany. Atlas House presents a single painting by artist Alex Robbins titled “Landscape with Stream and Weir” that reimagines Thomas Gainsborough’s pastoral Suffolk landscape through a process of manual reproduction and colour inversion. Working within the confines of a historic artwork - literally within the brushstrokes of another artist - the painting shifts attention away from the image and towards the physical dynamics of both perception and artistic value.
Accompanying the presentation is a new essay by Arne De Boever titled Becoming Sculpture, which considers the painting’s relationship to Sculpture, objecthood and the act of looking.
Alex Robbins works in Los Angeles. Past exhibitions include Atlas House, Ipswich UK; Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles, CA; Monte Vista Projects, Los Angeles, CA; CSU LA, Luckman Fine Arts Complex, Los Angeles, CA; Foundation for Contemporary Arts, NY; MOT International, London, UK. He is also the curator of a small experimental exhibition space called The Window, located at 1909 7th Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90016.
